[Production] The world‘s Largest Semi-Submersible Ship Boka Vanguard Was Completed

After 30 days of meticulous construction by HRDD, the world‘s largest semi-submersible vessel Boka Vanguard left the factory on January 6th, 2021. The shipowner praised the speed and high quality of Huarun Dadong‘s construction.

On November 28, 2020, the Boka Vanguard ship berthed at No. 4 jetty and started construction. The maintenance project includes the installation of a ballast water treatment system. The system involves four cabins in the bow and stern of the ship, the rear engine room and the left propeller room.

One of the construction problems is how to lift 132 large DN750A pipes and new equipment to the pump room. The second problem is that there is a ballast tank above the pump room, and the main deck is thick-walled, which adds difficulty to the process of construction.

The thickness of the ship’s deck, outer plate, longitudinal plate, pontoon platform plate, platform ribs and faceplates are relatively large. The bottoming is above 30mm, nearly half of the plates are 45mm and 55mm in thickness. These make that assembly be difficult and welding workload be hard. Therefore, the shipowner is not confident about the assembly and welding of these work by HRDD.

"We must fight this battle well in order to let the shipowner feel the strength of Huarun Dadong again."
In the face of difficulties, the project management team did not get chaos. They carefully deployed, and directed various departments to tackle difficult tasks, ensuring the progress of each steps orderly.

The project teams strictly followed the regulations, from pre-welding assembly and gap control to pre-welding heating and post-welding insulation. For each construction steps, the work was proceeded in an orderly manner, and completed the thick plate welding on schedule. In UT acceptance, the pass rate reached 100%. This result made the shipowner praised.

After the hard working, the shipowner of Boka Vanguard said: "It is a great achievement to get such a high UT pass rate for such a large quantity of ultra-thick plates! HRDD, good job!"

Due to the COVID-19, the ballast water valve parts which was ordered by the shipowner was delayed. It’s affected the installation work processing. However, the relevant workshop made all the preparations for the subsequent installation work by making temporary fake valves, and the real valves were installed quickly after arriving at the yard.

With the efforts of various departments, the ballast water treatment system was delivered to the service provider for commissioning on December 24th last year. The departments also actively cooperated with the service provider for debugging to ensure the smooth completion of the project.

The speedy and high-quality construction of Huarun Dadong made the ship owner overjoyed: "Thank you HRDD for helping us solve this big problem."
At the beginning of the ship’s arrival, the shipowner stated that they have already set the next batch of cargo delivery time, hence if the ballast water system is not completed, the ship still would leave the factory.
