[DELIVERY] Port of Calais(France)will use a pontoon bridge made by HRDD
The first set of French pontoon bridge made by HRDD was successfully shipped to French customers on January 18 after being hoisted for 40 hours.
The French pontoon bridge project is one of the key products undertaken by our company since its cooperation with MacGregor. There is a total of three sets, which are used to connect the car and passenger ferry to the terminal at Calais port. The general contractor is Bouygues Group (France) while MacGregor is the project designer and buyer. Our main work is to complete the steel structure, outfitting and painting of three sets of pontoon bridges.
The project is designed in European standards, which are different from shipbuilding standards. From steel plate pretreatment to assembly welding, section sand ballasting to painting, the construction and inspection standards are higher than shipbuilding standards. For example, welding seam of steel structure should meet P3 standard while paint must have a 10-year warranty, etc. In addition, the moving parts of the pontoon bridge have a large number of hinge connections, which requires extremely high alignment.
The project team of the offshore department has planned the process carefully, overcome many technical difficulties, improved the welding and painting process, and reached the European standards for construction and inspection. A precision stopping point was set in the installation of the hinge base. By means of on-site boring, the alignment of more than 130 hinge holes in 10 sets have been completed, which all the moving parts have been connected and tested successfully at once.
The first set of French pontoon bridges started in March of 2019 and was completed in early January 2020. The manufacturing cycle was 10 months, and the schedule, quality and HSE parts were all met the contract requirements.
The second and third sets of French pontoon bridges are scheduled to be delivered by the end of March and the end of May.
